2020 Projects

Your Help is Urgently Needed

This year has been so challenging for everyone in so many ways. The struggles we have in providing for our families in normal times has been overwhelmed by the COVID-19 Pandemic. No one has been left untouched and recovery will not be quick and easy. As a Public Charity we see very clearly the need that is all around us.

Therefore we understand that it is hard to consider helping others in a time like this, but the challenges we face at home pale in comparison to what is being endured in the communities we support. Please consider helping in any way you can.

ThinkActPeace is a tax-exempt Public Charity registered with the US IRS under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to ThinkActPeace may be tax deductible (Please see your Tax Professional to determine your actual situation).

Please help us build peaceful communities!

The 2020 Projects we have identified total $9,000.00.

The Impact of COVID-19

Updated! September  2, 2020

Have you ever wondered how this pandemic is affecting other people in the world? Can you ever imagine children, parents-adults, families, and communities in quarantine with no work, therefore no food to eat?

There is a small community in Masbate, Philippines trying to subsist by providing literacy learning for children, leadership skills for Young Adults and vital living skills for parents to provide a living for their families and communalities.

Everything was halted this year beginning with a typhoon that destroyed their gathering space, then termites infested their collection of donated books, school supplies, and learning materials, and then the COVID-19 pandemic locked down eliminating the ability to gather and support each other in the community.

Can you imagine how the lives in this community might be like?

  • The pangs of hunger and pain in their stomachs with no food to eat,

  • The hunger and thirst for learning; to read, to write, to think and create,

  • The hunger & thirst for working; to build, reconstruct, to raise up the peace village,

  • The hunger and thirst for gatherings; their songs, dances, programs & shows,

  • Everything has stopped like the rest of the world! All silence in the Village.

What can we do to help? How can we respond to the need of others who have nothing to eat, no work allowed due to COVID-19.

How can we provide hope to a community who seeks to learn  how to survive the next storm. To learn how to weather the next disaster or the next form of illness or just how to provide basic food on the table?

How can we be a solution of hope for a community who wants to learn, who wants to provide, who wants to live peaceful lives amongst their families and communities?

It must begin with us. Let us be the anchor of hope for them. Let's give the children a chance to learn; the young adults, the chance to lead their peers; the parents, a chance to learn skills to feed their families; and the community, to gather, support each other; and promote peaceful, active, and meaningful lives living in harmony and unity.

It begins with individuals, families, communities and hopefully spreads throughout the world! Let it be a contagious flow to spread hope and love to everyone we encounter!

We can be the hope, we can be that beginning, and we can be that jumpstart to create a peaceful community!

Leadership Programs for College and High School Students

Updated! September 2, 2020

How do we help the most deserving students achieve even more? We set higher standards then provide enhanced support for those that qualify. We provide enhanced tools for learning so the students will be the leaders that take their community into tomorrow.

The COVID -19 Pandemic affected the entire country of the Philippines. Benson Peace Village Community was not spared from the Enhanced Community Quarantine that lockdown the whole country.  Everyone was on lockdown, with lack of food and necessities.

All programs at the Benson Peace Village were stopped due to covid-19. Daily life was interrupted and programs were put to an abrupt stop. We expect that scholastic activities will resume in August. We estimate we now need $1,200.00 for this project and the need is more urgent as it will be vital to recover from the pandemic.

Literacy programs for Youth and Young Adults

Updated! September 2, 2020

How do we help more students be better people in society? We empower the young students to improve their learning skills with further studies in reading, writing and critical media knowledge. We provide the tools for learning so the students will be the hope for a better future in their communities.

Due to COVID-19 daily life was interrupted and programs were put to an abrupt stop. We expect the quarantine restriction to begin to be lifted in August. Our revised estimate is for $2,000.00 US to support this valuable project, and it will be more important than ever as we try to recover form the pandemic.

Sponsor a Student, TAP Scholarship Program

Updated! September 2, 2020

How do we encourage growth in mind and body? How do we give hope to students who want to learn? How do we give them the chance to gain knowledge? What can we do to open their eyes to a bigger world than they can see? We support, we give hope, we build peace!

We support students who want to reach their potential dreams. We give them opportunities to learn and study then eventually finish their studies so they can in return be leaders for their communities and mentor others to do likewise. We create a cycle of learning and teaching so that the community can sustain leadership from within. We support, we give hope, we build peace!

Help us support students by sponsoring their tuition for the year, to support their endeavors to learn and be productive in their communities and in our society. Let us be the hope that they need to be confident and valuable.  Let us be the peace that we all need to spread to the world. We support, we give hope, we build peace!

We had planned to fund scholarships for 15 High School students and 3 College students, similar to previous years. However with the school closures and other restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic we have had to lower our expectations. Our goal now is to find a way to support 3 High School students and 1 College student. Our goal is reduced from $7,500.00 to $1,600.00 US.

TAP Livelihood Projects

Updated! September 2, 2020

Let us support an opportunity to provide the ability for parents to sustain their families. We provide the tools and skills to make a living wage and they can be confident in providing food and security for their own families.

The livelihood projects will give them confidence in their efforts to make a decent living, provide the support they need to grow and be productive members of their communities.

There is an old Chinese proverb that says “Give a man some fish and he will live for the day, Teach the man to fish and he will live for a lifetime”.

Let us support the Livelihood Projects so we can give them hope for their lifetime!

Your support in providing tools and living skills to parents for the opportunity to earn and make a decent living to provide for their own financial security, gives them a chance to build up their own confidence and stability. It gives them the motivation to want to get a better life for themselves and for their children.

Woodworking, craftsmanship, gardening, embroidering, sewing, crocheting are just a few of the small home business/ micro finance that provides training, mentoring and support.

The ability to provide for the family is a boost to their self confidence and self worth. It gives one a better disposition, therefore making the parents proud of their accomplishments and gain an outlook for a better future. We help create a peaceful family.

We had hoped to fund this project at a level similar to previous years but the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to scale back on this project. We now need to raise $800.00 to support projects aimed at recovering from the pandemic.

Repair Storm Damage at Benson Peace Village

Updated! September 2, 2020

In December 2019, Typhoon Kammuri (known in the Philippines as Tisoy) caused very serious damage to all of the facilities at the Benson Peace Village. Several buildings were reduced to rubble and no part of the facility escaped serious damage.

We initially estimated $2,000.00 US to bring these vital facilities back into service. During the first few months of the year we diverted what reserve funds we had into this emergency. These funds were intended to support other vital projects. To date we have raised only $150.00, so we have a long way to go.

During the first phases of work on the Library we found extensive termite damage to the facilities. A second emergency project has been created to address this issue.

Repair damage from Termite Infestation in BPV Library

September 2, 2020

During our efforts to repair damage caused by typhoons we discovered that termites had infested the structure and book shelves in out Library. The wooden bookshelves are a complete loss, as well as most of the wooden structural elements of the facility. And most tragically hundreds of books, donated in previous years have been destroyed. It is hard to place a cost figure on this devastating loss, but the estimate to repair the library using materials that are not vulnerable to infestations will come to $1,400.00 US.
